FR. EDEH AND HOLISTIC EDUCATION

Fr Edeh and holistic Education
Annual Sports Activities: Fr Edeh Kicks off the Ball at Madonna University, Elele Campus
EDUCATION is life. Human beings cannot be useful without proper education. It is a bridge that links the past to the present. While many people see education only from the perspective of class room lectures, for Fr. Prof. Edeh, authentic education goes beyond what happens in the four corner of a class room. It involves moral, social, psychological and other wise development of the student.

In the glorious times of education in Nigeria, all the above values were put into consideration while forming our youth. Consequently, nations of the world had no reason to nurse any doubt about the certificate held by any product of the Nigerian educational system as teaching was intensive and the students submitted themselves to thorough baking thus having a positive reflection on the service delivery in the country.
Unfortunately,  the song on everybody’s lips in the country nowadays is that of poor educational standard. Nigerians, even the illiterates, believe that a terrible bug has attacked the educational system thus making it less potent as it was in the glorious past. Those who had the privilege of receiving quality education in those days appear to be more concerned and always wish that it were possible to go back to the Nigeria of their time.
It is in this complex and conflicting scenario that a man describe worldwide as a pillar of education in Africa, Very Rev. Fr. Prof. E.M.P Edeh has stepped in to rescue our educational ship from an impending wretch.  Going to the very grass root, Edeh began to rejuvenate the educational sector by inculcating in the youths at their very tender stage the essence of proper education.
After the establishment of numerous primary and secondary schools, he proceeded to establish four tertiary institutions namely: ASISATECH Polytechnic, OSISATECH College of Education, Madonna University and Caritas University. These are institutions where people come in with shrouded visions and leave as well-brushed young men and women capable of giving our society the values which have eluded our era.
Apart from intellectual excellence, extracurricular activities are taking very seriously as they form part of the formative strategies employed by these institutions to give the students holistic education. This informs the philosophy behind the organisation of what is referred to as CAPHIGA GAME which comes up annually between the six campuses of Edeh’s tertiary institutions.
Taking a kick off shot at the first match between the female team of Elele campus of Madonna University and that of OSISATECH Polytechnic ( Owo campus), the Founder made the contingents to understand that the primary aim of the games is not for people to emerge victorious but rather it is meant to build a cordial relationship between the students of different campuses and to equally serve as a medium for socialization.
While Elele campus of Madonna University locked horns with Owo campus of OSISATECH Polytechnoc, Okija campus engaged the Ogui campus of the Polytechnic as Caritas University played Okpugo campus of Madonna University.
Chatting with some students after the match at Elele campus, they all expressed their joy and satisfaction adding that the exercise was very beneficial as it brings them together from their different campuses not just to participate in the different games but also to socialize and make friends among themselves. They equally recommended the management for granting them such an opportunity.
